On the Fourth Day is a 20-year story of what happens when you believe the end of the world is coming, and have no way to prove it one way or the there. It begins in Gainesville, Florida, in 1993 when the editor of the student paper assigns a novice reporter to cover an astronomy lecture. But the reporter vanishes, the professor dies and the editor — and the love of his life — finds his next 20 or so years are dominated by the last paragraph she wrote.
Told in two points of view and run three parts, this is a story of knowing the unknowable, fixing the unfixable and what you do when everything goes wrong. It takes place in Florida newsrooms, sailboats in the Bahamas, Washington conference rooms, Arizona observatories and a billion miles from Earth. It’s a story about fathers and sons, found families and responsibilities, philosophical and political questions and the need to do something, whether it’s the right thing or not.
