Based on actual people and events, They Have Conquered Part One is a fictional account of an extended Mennonite family living in early 1900s Southern Russia.
Set in what is now modern-day Eastern Ukraine, this book seamlessly chronicles the challenges they faced during some of the most turbulent times in world history. Beginning with the family’s return from North America, the book follows the lead character, Gerhardt, on his adventures in Kazakhstan, Siberia, Dagestan, Georgia, Latvia, Poland, Crimea, and finally Turkey.
Gerhardt and his extended family deal with World War One, the Russian Revolution, and famine as they try to survive the turmoil. Part One covers the time from 1897 to early 1922.
